Wildlearning - Weaving & fibrecraft weekend
02 June 2018, 10:00 - 03 June 2018, 16:00 (Add to calendar)
Join local craftswomen Fay Jones and Julia Symonds at Bradfield Woods for an exciting weekend of spinning, dyeing and weaving. This special non-residential course is held on Saturday (10am-4.30pm) and Sunday (10am-4pm).
You will spend Saturday in the relaxed and peaceful settings of Bradfield Woods making a selection of different fibres to create your own woven master work. Learn how to spin with spinning wheels and drop spindles using our very own SWT 'Flying Flock' fleece and other locally sourced fleeces. Hand twist natural cordage from elm and lime tree bast as well as stinging nettles and experiment with colouring them with natural pigments. Dye a range of pre-prepared fibres using plants gathered from Bradfield Woods to add extra colour and vibrancy to your work.
On Sunday receive expert weaving tuition using a table top loom. Be inspired by these ancient woodlands, and weave all your fibres together to make your own wonderful art work. This is a free weave session with no rules, so if you wish to add twigs, leaves or grasses into your weave it's up to you to explore your creativity and all the materials Bradfield has to offer.
Across the weekend, as a group we will also be making a woven piece on a lap loom which will be put on display in the visitor centre.
Suitable for beginners. If you would like to bring any of your own yarns, buttons or beads to add into your weaving please feel free to do so.
PLEASE NOTE: Accommodation is not provided.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available and are included in the price.
