Wildlearning - Weave a willow hare
10 March 2018, 10:00 - 15:00 (Add to calendar)
Weave a lovely stand up hare, for inside or outside use, from English willow and textured twigs gathered from the wild - with Jo Hammond, local professional basketmaker.
You will learn how to shape an elegant hare figure. Using simple weaving techniques, you will discover how to create a framework, how to cover and shape the frame with freeweave, and how to build the head, legs and ears to finish your piece. Jo will also guide you in selecting the willow, finishing and trimming your work.
All the materials you need are provided, although if you have your own secateurs, bring them along.
NOTE- Willow weaving is moderately hard work and does require a firm grip, and the flexibility to bend over and squat down occasionally.
Materials and useful handouts are included in the price of the course.
The course is suitable for beginners or those with some experience.
Numbers are limited to just 12, ensuring plenty of hands-on help.
Secateurs if you have them but there will be some to borrow
A packed lunch
