Wildlearning - Dragonfly & Damselfly Identification

01 July 2017, 10:00 - 15:00 (Add to calendar)

Learn how to identify and survey dragonflies and damselflies and how to record your sightings on i-record. With Steve Piotrowski.

Recording your sightings provides evidence for conservation decisions to be made such as assessing the impact that climate change and other environmental factors are having on our dragonflies and damselflies.

You will spend a fascinating day with Steve Piotrowski on this wonderful wetland reserve finding out more about dragonflies and damselflies and their behaviour. Steve is a very experienced tutor with a wealth of knowledge on local dragonfly and damselfly species and populations.

You will learn how to identify the common British dragonfly and damselfly species. A short time will be spent in the Centre looking at identification and basic survey techniques, ecology and biology. We will then go out on to the species-rich reserve to observe and identify dragonflies and damselflies in their habitat. Suitable for beginners/less experienced.

Please bring:

A packed lunch
A notepad and pen
A camera or smartphone if you wish
A pair of binoculars would be very useful, and there will be a few pairs to borrow at the Centre.
