Water Vole and Otter for Ecologists

This course is for ecologists or those wishing to learn about otter and water vole ecology and how to survey them.
We will focus on the ecology of each of the species and recent population trends, as well as relevant legislation. This will be followed by an outdoor session looking for field signs with an emphasis on developing field-craft. We will also discuss standardised survey methodologies and how to apply them.
What to bring:
- A packed lunch
- A thin pair of protective gloves to aid searching in vegetation
- Old clothes or clothes you don’t mind getting muddy – long trousers and sleeves are also necessary!
- Walking boots or wellington boots
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided and are included in the course cost.
Numbers are limited to 9 to ensure that Janet can give participants individual attention.
