Sharpening and care of green woodworking tools

Get to grips with the sharpening and maintenance of common and unusual green wood working hand tools. With Chris Perkins, local craftsman and green wood worker.

Bradfield Woods open air workshop offers protection from the rain and a fireplace for making a brew! Tea, coffee and biscuits included in the price. All you need is suitable clothing, strong footwear and a packed lunch.

You will learn how to sharpen tools to function efficiently, how to select sharpening stones and materials and choose methods most suited to you. You are welcome to bring your own tools along to work on. Suitable for all abilities and experience, a mix of demonstrations and hands on experience will provide the confidence and knowledge to keep your tools in perfect working order.

Rural crafts and their tools and techniques form the backbone of Chris's work as a green wood carver, toolmaker and experienced teacher of traditional crafts. Chris has gained considerable working knowledge of restoring historic hand tools for use and enjoys passing his skills and enthusiasm to others.

Please wear clothing suitable for the weather, and stout footwear.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided and are included in the price, but please bring a packed lunch.
