Introduction to QGIS - Wednesday 18th April

A one day course on an introduction to QGIS delivered by experienced trainer Matt Davies from Maplango ( 

The course will be held at Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Brooke House, Ashbocking office is primarily aimed at people who use GIS for biological recording or as part of habitat mapping work.

It will cover the topics including:

  • GIS fundamentals – projections and data types.
  • Introduction to QGIS – releases, plugins, interface.
  • Building maps and viewing data - loading data and adjusting map display.
  • Sourcing and styling map layers – where to find data to use in QGIS.
  • Creating new data – digitising.
  • Presenting maps – creating a map template with logo, key, scalebar.

The course will include a range of presentations, live-demonstrations and exercises. Participants will be required to bring their own laptop and lunch.
