Adult course (DK) - Felted hedgehog workshop at Redgrave & Lopham Fen

27 October 2018, 10:00 - 13:00 (Add to calendar)

Use traditional dry felting techniques to create a hedgehog from wool fibres, with craftswoman Jilly Trafford.

On this workshop you will spend a fascinating time with Jilly  who lives locally and has been practising the ancient craft of needle felting for several years. She loves to work in wool to create small soft sculptures, such as sheep, owls, robins and hedgehogs from Shetland roving.

The craft of needle felting, also known as dry felting, involves using a felting needle to tangle and compress the fibres, without the need for water or soap.

Repeated stabbing of the fibres with the felting needle ('needling') will result in a firm felt mass. This is the basic principle of needle felting. By gradually adding fibre and defining the shape through needling, detailed three-dimensional structures such as animals can be created entirely from wool fibres.

All materials necessary will be provided by Jilly on the day and are included in the price of the course as are ample tea/coffee and biscuits.
